Why am I Running?
I’m running because I love this city and I can help lead us through the next few years, which will be challenging ones. The challenges Asheville faces – how we grow, how we invest scarce dollars, how we take care of people and the environment, and how we work together cooperatively and constructively – are the issues I’ve worked on my entire life.
Having revitalized our downtown, having weathered the recession, and having landed on the top of so many “Best of” lists, Asheville is on the rise. Our success brings new residents, new businesses, new construction, and new visitors, and our challenge now is how to welcome these newcomers, continue to flourish, expand opportunities fort those who are already here, and maintain the mix of elements that make us unique – our vibe, our spirit, our locally owned stores, our neighborhoods, our artists and musicians, our clean air and water, and our working farms and forests. In short, how can we keep the Asheville we love?
My priorities for preserving the Asheville we love are to:
- Ensure Asheville’s growth enhances what sets us apart: our people, culture, and environment.
- Create the future we want with investments that make Asheville more walkable, bikeable, and affordable.
- Expand opportunities for everyone to share to share in Asheville’s success.
I offer the City of Asheville all my skills, expertise, energy, and passion, and I ask for your support.
